# How to prevent attachments from being sent as winmail.dat

This article applies **only **to users on classic Outlook since the default format is **Rich Text Format (RTF)**.

To change the format of all new messages in classic Outlook:

- Navigate to the **File** tab
- Click on **Options**, then select **Mail**
- Under **Compose messages **in the **Compose messages in this format **list, select **HTML**
- Click on **OK**
